Sonya Sarki (born 1995) is a visual artist currently based between Lahore and Karachi, Pakistan. She completed her BFA from the National College of Arts, Lahore specialising in Printmaking where she received a Distinction for her efforts.
Shortly after graduating, Sonya started working as Assistant Curator at the Zahoor ul Akhlaq Gallery, Lahore. Isolation, fear, and mystery are the most important thems of Sonya’s work. She is captivated by the effect light has when a shard of it breaks into a dark space. Through her choice of imagery and colour palette, she evokes a sense of isolation and mysteriousness in the viewer. The unfinished dream, which has always been with her since the beginning, is what guides her creative process. However, Sonya’s latest series have naturally moulded themselves into a new direction, one that she has yet to fully explore and understand. The process and mediums that Sonya wields play a crucial role in her practice of art. She uses different techniques such as line etching, aquatint, and mezzotint to create her artworks using their unique visual vocabulary to convey a certain theme.
Select artworks of Sonya’s are housed within the permanent collection of the Ambiance Boutique Art Hotels.
