Hina’s research is concerned with the complex relationship between the female body, cultural identity, and its existence in the South Asian cultural context. According to the artist, her work is mostly autobiographical, the body is clearly evident in my art practice and it becomes a tool to relay the themes of visibility, trauma, repression and societal expectations that affect women all around the world. Hina brings attention to how in spite of large numbers, they are treated like second-grade citizens and considered weak and powerless by the patriarchy. She believes the difference in the mistreatment and abuse of men as opposed to men is that, unlike their male counterparts, females are liable to be mistreated and abused in the sanctity of their homes. Hina’s art practice started as an observation of the female essence in the public realm, but in the course of time, the conversation led into the repression of the female existence within the domestic and the personal. The paintings depict the silent burden of patriarchy in their use of ties, wristwatches, ashtrays, and elegant sofas as symbols of masculine hegemony; signifying the invisible presence of men. The bright, vivid, crumpled female garments against empty drab interiors comment on the effect of patriarchy, the lack of individuality and agency that is felt by countless women in domestic and social circles all around the world. Currently, she is working as an Assistant Professor in the Fiene Arts department at the Institute for Art and Culture, Lahore and also pursuing an MA in Art Education from the Beaconhouse National University, Lahore.
Her artwork is housed within the permanent collection of the Ambiance Boutique Art Hotels.
