M. Mohsin Shaikh (born 1990) is a visual artist currently based in Lahore, Pakistan. His early education was an unusual one by virtue of moving schools a lot due to his father’s profession. He completed his BFA from the National College of Arts, Lahore in specialising in Painting, which he was magnetically drawn towards despite his avid interest in other art forms like sculpture.

 Mohsin’s fascination with this medium started when he was four years old and his mother made a colour pencil drawing of a red apple on chart paper for a school assignment, which remains a source of inspiration for him to this day. However, he is strongly against having a singular point of inspiration, being mesmerised during his university days by the works of artists like Leonardo Da Vinci, Vincent Van Gogh, Raphael Sanzio da Urbino, and even quite often his own teachers.

Mohsin’s artworks focus on the reality of his life, the experiences, the twists and turmoils, even the scurrying of a small rat or a pigeon taking off for flight. During his university days, Mohsin was enamoured by debates stemming from the seminar class taught by Quddus Mirza, which gave him the opportunity to introspectively view his practice and discuss it with his peers and visiting lecturers. Mohsin’s ultimate satisfaction as an artist is driven by the freedom that it provides as his concern lies not with pleasing others but rather reaching the extents of his limitless imagination where he breaks both lines and rules. He has extensively showcased his artworks locally in a number of exhibitions.
