Muhammad Salman Khan (born 1994) is a multidisciplinary visual artist currently based in Lahore, Pakistan. He completed his BFA from the National College of Arts, Lahore in 2017 where he specialised in Miniature Painting.
Muhammad’s work is about sociopolitical scenarios related to the tribal areas of Pakistan, in particular, the South Waziristan Tribal District a mountainous area near the Afghanistan border where he grew up. In the artist’s words “For the past few decades, this region has been constantly affected by the War on Terror”. Through his art practice, Muhammad records all situations and events that occurred or are occurring in this area. He presents his ideas using techniques of Mughal Miniature Painting examining its usefulness under a special mix. The basic elements of Muhammad’s art are Romanticism and Abstraction through the intricate play of colours and textures. He believes that any art form is the ground for individual and social evolution and development of human beings and plays an important role in surveying history, In the tribal areas be it women empowerment, war or scenes of politics, his work reflects them.
