Nairah Sharjeal (born 1994) is a visual artist currently based in Lahore, Pakistan. She completed her BFA from the National College of Arts, Lahore in 2016 specialising in Painting where she received a distinction for her efforts. Nairah was also the recipient of the Shakir Ali Award for the highest merit within the Department of Fine Arts.

Her source of inspiration lies within concepts of impermanence and the obliviousness of the mundane that exists within contemporary settings which are often disregarded in the hustle and bustle of modern life. Nairah’s art practice reflects upon the intimate relationship between the animate and the inanimate, by juxtaposing the two she explores the parallels between the two dimensions. She is particularly fascinated by using the idea of moulting i.e the process of shedding skin, the outermost organic layer, in conjunction with lifeless static objects. The use of transparent, diaphanous polyester fibres, symbolic of the remains of shed skin, acts as a metaphor for how strength and durability have to succumb to transience and inevitable change. These ghostly ‘remains’ of seemingly tough objects delicately cause viewers to reminisce about the past, yearning for their existence within a bygone time and space.

Nairah has exhibited her works locally at numerous venues such as at collateral events Lahore Biennale 01, Lahore titled Four Rooms in 2018, another Lahore Biennale Foundation, Lahore collateral A Site for Sight in 2019 and a group show titled Stars of tomorrow, Pakistan Art Forum Gallery, Lahore in  2022. She has deepened her understanding of sculptural installations and the treatment of space by working in the field of Visual Merchandising since her graduation.

Nairah’s artwork is housed within the permanent collection of the Ambiance Boutique Art Hotels.
