Sara Riaz Khan (born 1970) is a visual artist, educator and author currently based in Muscat, Oman. She attended the Heatherley School of Art, London and then went on to pursue and complete a B.A. in Islamic Art and Architecture from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, London. Sara later received an MSc in Multidisciplinary Studies from Buffalo State University of New York, Buffalo.
Sara’s art practice is inspired by nature, a shared humanity, and the potential, and power of the creative process. A life-changing family event accelerated her path to abstraction and she continues to explore this style, working mainly with oil and gesso to create multi-layered and textured works. Sara has taught at the Middle Years Programme Design/Art at ABA Oman International School, Muscat for many years and was also Artist-in-Residence there. Since 2017 she has been working at Harbord & Khan Educational Consultants, collaborating to develop curriculum projects, presenting at conferences, delivering teacher training and publishing articles on contemporary issues in education. Sara has co-authored two International Baccalaureate teachers’ resources, ‘Interdisciplinary Thinking for Schools: Ethical Dilemmas MYP 1, 2 & 3’ and ‘Interdisciplinary Thinking for Schools: Ethical Dilemmas MYP 4 & 5’. Her article ‘Sustenance and Sustainability’ was published in Volume 4 Humanities, Arts and Society (HAS) magazine.
Sara’s artwork is housed within the permanent collection of Ambiance Boutique Art Hotels.
