Sayed Khurram Abbas (born 1996) is a visual artist currently based in Islamabad, Pakistan. He completed his BFA from the National College of Arts, Rawalpindi in 2021 specialising in Miniature Painting and received a distinction for his efforts.
Khurram’s art practice displays a keen insight into post-war trauma specifically Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as his childhood memories are mostly related to war and its impact on him. His work can be viewed as a comment on sectarian conflicts, social injustice and how religion is utilised as a tool to manipulate individuals in the name of God. Khurram makes use of the poetry of individuals like Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Habib Jalib, and Salman Haider in his artworks. He uses a litany of mediums and techniques including but not limited to gouache, mixed media and printmaking in his paintings. Khurram has exhibited his works extensively locally and internationally at various art organisations such as Satrang Gallery, Islamabad; Pakistan National Council of Arts, Islamabad; Ejaz Gallery, Lahore; 8b2, Islamabad; Alhamra Arts Council, Lahore; Artscene Gallery, Karachi; Holy Art Gallery, London; VM Art Gallery, Karachi; Islamabad Literature Festival, Islamabad in 2023; and Of Stars and Eternity at Sanat Initiative, Karachi in 2024. He recently was the assistant curator for a show Haryali at the Embassy of Denmark, Islamabad.
His artwork is housed in the permanent collection of the Ambiance Boutique Art Hotels. Read less
