Sheema Khan (born 1982) is a visual artist currently based in Karachi, Pakistan. She completed her BFA from the Visual Studies Department, University of Karachi, Karachi in 2005 specialising in Miniature Painting and received a distinction for her efforts. Sheema then went on to pursue and complete an MA in History from the same institute in 2020.
Her multidisciplinary art practice combines 2D and 3D miniature techniques, addressing critical modern issues while reinterpreting traditional art forms. Sheema specialises in traditional miniature painting looking at it with a contemporary socio-political lens. Her artworks have been exhibited extensively both locally and internationally in the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Canada, Switzerland, Iran, Singapore and the United States of America in more than 50 group exhibitions and international shows. She was the recipient of the Faiz Ahmed Faiz Award in 2011 and was selected from over 150 artists. Sheema’s practice has been recognised by numerous international publications, often praised as “an innovative twist on the past”. In addition to her artistic practice, she is a Visiting Faculty member at the Visual Studies Department, University of Karachi, Karachi and the Textile Institute of Pakistan, Karachi.
